Default Finally got a spoiler :)

I had bought one of the ones that were labeled as "needs finishing" or something like that from Garm years ago and found that I didn't have the skills needed to finish it. I just put that project off for a while before I finally decided I wanted to find another one. Prowled around online and found this one on ebay for $80 shipped (linky)

The primer was a little spotty where it had been sanded, so I sprayed it with some primer I had lying around and wet sanded that. Here's what it looked like pre-painting.

The best quote I got for painting it was $300. There's no way I was paying $300 to paint a $80 spoiler, so I went to O'Reilleys and got some paint mixed ($24) and bought one of those Preval aerosol paint kits ($6 and $4.50 for a recharge). I then rigged up this awesome painting contraption and went at it.

I painted for about a hour (roughly 6 full coats). It sortof had a hammered looking finish and a bit of texture, so I thought about sanding it but decided I liked it like that.

Using a center punch and then drilling holes into my trunk lid was one of the more horrifying things that I've done. It felt so wrong to smack my poor little Yaris with a hammer and then drill holes in it But it turned out well IMO.

I'm happy with it I definitely think it dresses the back end of the car up and breaks up the "egg" shape that it had going on.

Thanks! I love it! It's a bit loud on the interstate, but the sound is great. Nice deep growl I've had it for about 30k miles. In combination with the DC Header and AFE intake I can tell a big difference in the torque.

That crank pulley works wonders too. I have the old Nitto 10% underdrive one myself. Nice! I'm planning to S/C my Yaris sometime early 2013

    Thanks guys

Auto shops around here are ridiculous. The install for the spoiler was going to be $150 for what took me about 30 minutes with a center punch, drill, and a screwdriver.
