I've had a persistant brief squeal on startup ever since I installed my NST UD crank pulley. Old belt, new belt, various tensions to no avail. I'm pretty much suspecting that the aluminum pulleys are more prone to belt slippage than the OEM cast ones.

Anodizing could have made the grooved contact surfaces more slippery. A plastic scrubbie pad might rough them up enough to make the belt grip better.

It's been on for 4 years. There is no anodizing left on the contact surface.

that just makes no sense. I had some squeal after a week, but then had everything readjusted and my pulley's have been quiet since.

Belt was pretty loud yesterday, so I drove the wife's car to work so the Yaris would be cool and ready to go when I got back home.
5 minutes, one wrench and two sockets, and I had the belt swapped out. Tensioned the belt using my "calibrated thumb tensioning tool"
, ran the car for five minutes, re-tensioned the belt and started her back up.
Drove to my parents. No squeak.
Drove to the store. No squeak!
Drove back home. NO squeak!!!
I think that when I put the original belt back on the new pulley it wasn't seated on it just right. Things looked a little uneven when I was inspecting it before taking it out. Looked better when the new one was in.
Hope that after my commute to work when I pull into the lot... no squeak!

^ even if it was just a "Recommended" option. It just makes it more convenient to have it shipped out with the pulley.
